7.5 PASSION
Our LORD JESUS CHRIST was greatly reproached from HIS childhood (Psalm 69:11-12). HE was greatly afflicted from HIS youth (Psalm 129:1-2).

The passion is the sufferings and death of our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST. HE horribly suffered and died for our sins.  HE horribly suffered from the garden of Gethsemane to Calvary for our sins. HE, the Righteous one died a substitutionary death for us, the sinners.

The garden of Gethsemane was the place of our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most agonizing prayer, Judas' betrayal, and HIS arrest. HIS prayer was not due to HIS fear of death. HE never feared about HIS death. The punishment that had to be borne for our sins brought our LORD JESUS CHRIST great anguish.

In the garden of Gethsemane, HE struggled and wrestled against our sins, and HE killed the sin that entered through the garden of Eden and all other sins. The sin of the whole world was poured on our LORD JESUS CHRIST and HE became "sin for us". Now, HE is the sin-bearer for all mankind for all the ages. HE is the Saviour of the whole world for all the ages. HE is the Redeemer of the whole world for all the ages.

“For HE hath made HIM to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM.”
II Corinthians 5:21

In the garden of Gethsemane, our LORD JESUS CHRIST fell on HIS face and prayed; HE fell on the ground and prayed; HE knelt down and prayed; HE prayed with loud cries and tears. HE prayed earnestly and in great anguish; HE was greatly pressed and greatly squeezed. So, HIS sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. So, our LORD JESUS CHRIST was very tired and HE was very weak as well. HE was too tired to walk about a stone's throw (about a distance of 150 feet) to come near HIS sleeping disciples (St. Luke 22:39-41; St. Matthew 26:36-45). What a pitiful thing it is! During HIS most agonizing prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, all HIS disciples were in deep slumber.

“And being in an agony HE prayed more earnestly: and HIS sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
St. Luke 22:44

“Who in the days of HIS flesh, when HE had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears ...”
Hebrews 5:7

After the passion in the garden of Gethsemane, Judas Iscariot, the traitor; betrayed our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST and HE was arrested; and HE was put to death on the cross.

Before putting our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST to death, the Jews, soldiers, servants and others beat HIM with hands and sticks mercilessly and severely. What a pitiful thing it is!

The soldiers slapped our LORD JESUS CHRIST on HIS most holy head with a rod. They also slapped HIM on HIS most holy cheek with a rod. What a pitiable thing it is!

This pitiable thing is a fulfilment of Micah 5:1.

“...They shall smite the Judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.”
 Micah 5:1

“And they smote HIM on the head with a reed, ...”
St. Mark 15:19

The soldiers replaced our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most holy dress with another dress (with a purple robe). They mocked HIS claim to be King by clothing HIM with a purple (scarlet) coloured military robe.

“...And they put on HIM a purple robe,”
St. John 19:2

Again, the soldiers after taking off HIS own clothes, they tied our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST to a stone pillar and six Roman soldiers whipped (scourged) HIM with leather whips tipped with sharp pieces of metal and bone, until their hands became tired. The Roman scourge consisted of a leather whip, split into several strips, tipped with sharp pieces of metal and bone to cut the flesh. Now, our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most holy back was torn as if it was furrowed with a plough. What an awful thing it is!
This awful thing is a fulfilment of Psalm 129:3.

“The plowers plowed upon MY back: they made long their furrows.”
Psalm 129:3

“Then Pilate therefore took JESUS, and scourged HIM.”
  St. John 19:1

Our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST's most holy body was torn as if it was furrowed with a plough and HIS most holy blood was running out of HIS most holy body. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST fainted and fell on HIS face in the blood. What an awful thing it is!

The soldiers crowned our LORD JESUS CHRIST with a crown of seventy-two sharp iron nails (crown of thorns) and beat HIM on HIS most holy head with a bamboo stick. So this iron crown was pressed on HIS most holy head without any shake. Now, HIS most holy blood was bleeding from HIS most holy head. What an awful thing it is!

“And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon HIS head, and a reed in HIS right hand: and they bowed the knee before HIM, and mocked HIM, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!”
St. Matthew 27:29

“And began to salute HIM, Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote HIM on the head with a reed, and did spit upon HIM, and bowing their knees worshipped HIM.”
St. Mark 15:18-19

“And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote HIM with their hands.”
St. John 19:3

They also spat on HIM. They spat on HIS most holy face. They struck HIM with sticks. They also struck HIM with their hands. They ridiculed HIM and mocked at HIM. A scarlet (purple) robe, a crown of thorns and a reed (rod) for a scepter added to their mockery. They put a rod in HIS right hand and mockingly knelt in front of HIM and mockingly worshipped HIM. They mockingly hailed HIM. They mockingly saluted HIM. What a pitiful thing it is!

It was a heart-rending sight when they extremely insulted HIM, ridiculed HIM and mocked at HIM. They pulled out our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most holy beard from HIS most holy cheeks and so HIS most holy blood was oozing from HIS most holy face. What a pitiable thing it is!

This pitiable thing is a fulfilment of Isaiah 50:6.

“I gave MY back to the smiters, and MY cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not MY face from shame and spitting.”
Isaiah 50:6

The king Herod with his men of war extremely ridiculed our extremely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST. They also extremely mocked at HIM. They also dressed HIM in a gorgeous robe to add to their mockery. Insane or mad people were usually dressed in
gorgeous robes. The king Herod treated our extremely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST with extreme contempt. What a pathetic thing it is!

“And Herod with his men of war set HIM at nought (treated HIM with extreme contempt), and mocked HIM, and arrayed (dressed) HIM in a gorgeous robe, and sent HIM again to Pilate.”
St. Luke 23:11

Before that, the men who held our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST severely struck HIM. They placed HIS most holy hands at HIS back and strongly bound HIS most holy hands with ropes and handcuffs. They also strongly bound HIS most holy waist with a long iron chain and two men caught hold of it with one at the front end and the other at the rear end. Then they severely pushed HIM here and there; they severely pulled HIM here and there; they severely pushed HIM to fall to the ground; they severely pushed HIM to fall to a rocky ground. So our LORD JESUS CHRIST fell to a rocky ground.  Then they put HIM into a deep and dark pit. What a pitiful thing it is!
Again, they also struck on HIS most holy face. The servants also struck HIM with their fists. They greatly ridiculed him. They greatly mocked at HIM. They spat on HIM. They also spat on HIS most holy face. They blindfolded HIM. They blasphemously spoke against HIM. They greatly insulted HIM. They extremely blasphemed against HIM. What a pitiable thing it is!

“And the men that held JESUS mocked HIM, and smote HIM.  And when they had blindfolded HIM, they struck HIM on the face, and asked HIM, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote THEE?And many other things blasphemously spake they against HIM.”
St. Luke 22:63-65

“And some began to spit on HIM, and to cover HIS face, and to buffet (beat) HIM, and to say unto HIM, Prophesy: and the servants did strike HIM with the palms of their hands.”
St. Mark 14:65

Our LORD JESUS was completely exhausted and weary. HE was very hungry and HE was very thirsty. HE was very tired and HE was very weak. HE was too tired to walk. HE was too tired to stand as well. What a pitiful thing it is!

When Pilate delivered our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST to the Jews to be crucified, the soldiers took off the clinging purple robe and put on HIS most holy dress. When taking off the clinging robe, HIS most holy body was again torn and HIS most holy blood was again flowing out. What an awful thing it is!

“...They took off the purple from HIM, and put HIS own clothes on HIM, ...”
St. Mark 15:20

Our LORD JESUS became more and more tired and weary. HE became more and more hungry and thirsty. HE became more and more weak and exhausted. What a pathetic thing it is!

Then they asked our LORD JESUS CHRIST to carry a heavy wooden cross. Evidently, the weight of the cross was more than HE could bear due to HIS very severe scourging, and due to HIS very severe hunger and thirst, and due to HIS very severe tiredness and weariness. What a pathetic thing it is!

Then our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST bore HIS own cross on HIS most holy shoulders, with great agony and pain and went out to the place of the Skull or Golgotha or Calvary. When unable to bear HIS heavy cross on HIS most holy shoulders, HE was bent towards HIS front and HIS heavy cross was on HIS back and one end of HIS cross touched the floor. Very slowly, HE walked towards Calvary. What a pitiful thing it is!

“And HE bearing HIS cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha.”
St. John 19:17

With the heavy wooden cross on HIS most holy shoulders, our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST walked falteringly on the rugged and rocky path in barefoot with great agony and pain. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's exceedingly holy feet were bleeding as HE walked on the rugged and rocky path. What a pitiful thing it is!

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST was utterly exhausted. HIS most holy knees trembled from weakness and HE fell down on the rugged and rocky path three times with the heavy cross upon HIM, and these three times HE felt unconscious. Even then, they beat our LORD JESUS CHRIST two times mercilessly and severely. What an awful thing it is!

When our LORD JESUS CHRIST had fallen the third time, our LORD had no strength to rise and HE lay there under the heavy cross much more exhausted and weary. At that time also HE felt unconscious.  The soldiers thought that HE would die before HE was crucified. So, they stopped their severe and merciless beatings, and they forced
Simon the Cyrenian to bear the cross. They thought that he was a Gentile, as he was black. But he was a Jew. The Romans and the Jews did never touch the cross.

Simon first lifted the heavy cross under which our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST lay. Then our LORD JESUS CHRIST very slowly rose to HIS feet and the heavy cross was placed very lightly on HIS most holy shoulders. Simon walked behind our LORD JESUS CHRIST supporting the cross. Thus, Simon helped our LORD JESUS CHRIST to walk without falling again. Simon walked behind our LORD JESUS CHRIST up to the top of the hill of Calvary, the place of the Skull or Golgotha, where our LORD JESUS was to be crucified. With very great difficulty our LORD JESUS CHRIST went up the steep hill of Calvary. With great agony and pain our LORD JESUS CHRIST went up the steep hill of Calvary. What a pitiful thing it is!

Then they crucified our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST on the cross with three nails. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's exceedingly holy blood was gushing out of HIS most sacred hands and feet. What an awful thing it is!

When they forcibly dropped the cross into a pit, the most holy blood of our LORD JESUS CHRIST poured out like water and all HIS most holy bones were out of joint and HIS most holy bones could be counted and HIS most holy heart had turned wax; HIS most holy heart had melted away in the midst of HIS most holy bowels; HIS most holy strength was dried up like a potsherd; and HIS most holy tongue stuck to HIS most holy jaws. What an awful thing it is!

This awful thing is the fulfilment of Psalm 22:14-15, 17.

“I am poured out like water, and all MY bones are out of joint: MY heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of MY bowels. MY strength is dried up like a potsherd; and MY tongue cleaveth to MY jaws; ...”
Psalm 22:14-15

“I may tell (can count) all my bones: ...”
Psalm 22:17

Thus our exceedingly guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST was poured out like water. HIS most holy body was greatly shivering and trembling due to great agony and pain. HIS most holy arms, legs, hands and feet were also greatly shivering and trembling due to great agony and pain. What an awful thing it is!

All the enemies who saw HIM mocked at HIM; they laughed at HIM; they shot out their lips; they shook their heads; and they reproached HIM. Their great reproaches had broken HIS most holy heart greatly. What a pitiable thing it is!
This pitiable thing is a fulfilment of Psalm 22:7-8; 69:20; 109:25.

“All they that see ME laugh ME to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, HE trusted on the LORD that HE would deliver HIM: let HIM deliver HIM, seeing HE delighted in HIM.”
Psalm 22:7-8

“Reproach hath broken MY heart; and I am full of heaviness: ...”
Psalm 69:20

“I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon ME they shaked their heads.”
Psalm 109:25

Those who passed by hurled insults at HIM and blasphemed against HIM, wagging their heads, and saying,

“Save THYSELF, and come down from the cross.”
St. Mark 15:30

“...Save THYSELF. If THOU be the SON of GOD, come down from the cross.”
St. Matthew 27:40

Our LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST is the SON of GOD, but a group of Jews (Israelites) did not believe and accept HIM.

In the same way, the chief priests and the scribes and elders mocked at HIM among themselves. They said,

HE saved others; HIMSELF HE cannot save. Let CHRIST the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.”
St. Mark 15:31-32

Our LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST is the most glorious King of Israel, but a group of Jews (Israelites) did not believe and accept HIM.

They also crucified two thieves (robbers) with HIM, the one on HIS right and the other on HIS left. Even these robbers who were crucified with our LORD JESUS CHRIST reviled HIM in an insulting language. What a pitiable thing it is!

“The thieves also, which were crucified with HIM, cast the same in HIS teeth (repeated the same taunts to HIM).”
St. Matthew 27:44

Now, our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST was hanging in the middle of two thieves. What a pitiable thing it is!

This pitiable thing is the fulfilment of Isaiah 53:12.

“...HE was numbered with the transgressors; ...”
Isaiah 53:12

There were no trees or shadows in the place of the skull, Golgotha or Calvary. It was 9 a.m. when they crucified our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  While HE was hanging on the cross, scorching heat of the sun gave HIM more and more agony and pain; more and more thirst and hunger. HE suffered terribly from the intense heat of the sun. From 9 a.m. to 12 noon, our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST was seared with the intense heat of the sun. What a pitiful thing it is!

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST suffered extreme hunger and extreme thirst on the cross. HIS exceedingly holy tongue dried and stuck to HIS most holy palate; HIS most holy stomach stuck to HIS most holy back. HIS most holy bones were out of joint. HIS most holy bones were so shaken loose that they could be counted. HIS most holy heart melted like wax within HIM. HE was poured like water. HIS most holy blood poured out like water. What a pitiful thing it is!

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most holy face was like a very hard grey (gray) stone. HIS exceedingly beautiful golden face, HIS very handsome and pretty face, and HIS extremely merciful face dried and shrank. One of HIS most holy eyes sank into the socket and another most holy eye lightly came outside the socket due to very heavy blows. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's most beautiful appearance was disfigured and HIS most holy face was marred. What a pitiable thing it is!

This pitiable thing is the fulfilment of Isaiah 50:7; 52:14; 53:2.

“...Therefore have I set MY face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.”
Isaiah 50:7

“As many were astonied (astonished) at THEE; HIS visage (appearance) was so marred more than any man, and HIS form more than the sons of men:”
Isaiah 52:14

“...HE hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see HIM, there is no beauty that we should desire HIM.”
Isaiah 53:2

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST was greatly neglected and despised. HE was greatly oppressed and afflicted. HE was filled with extreme sorrow. HE was deeply insulted. With HIS most holy body bruised, our LORD JESUS CHRIST suffered terrible agony and pain on the cross.  What a pitiful thing it is!

This pitiful thing is the fulfilment of Isaiah 53:3-7.

HE is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from HIM; HE was despised, and we esteemed HIM not. Surely HE hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem HIM stricken, smitten of GOD, and afflicted. But HE was wounded for our transgressions, HE was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon HIM; and with HIS stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on HIM the iniquity of us all. HE was oppressed, and HE was afflicted, yet HE opened not HIS mouth: HE is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so HE openeth not HIS mouth.”
Isaiah 53:3-7

These unbearable sufferings, agonizing pains, worst humiliations, undesirable insults and most cruel persecutions are the result of the filthy rotten sins of mankind. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST suffered extreme agonies, intense pains, vehement insults and public humiliations which mankind deserved for their filthy rotten sins. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST tolerated all these great agonies, pains, insults and humiliations only to give freedom to mankind, to escape from destruction of sin and curse, and to bring peace, good health, strength and consolation, and to give eternal life of heaven at the end. What a loving GOD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is!

7.6 CHRIST DIED FOR THE GLORY OF GOD AS WELL

CHRIST's death on the cross is not only for the salvation of sinners of the whole world, but also for the glory and honour of GOD HIMSELF. CHRIST JESUS died for the glory of GOD. CHRIST JESUS died for the glory and honour of GOD. CHRIST JESUS demonstrated GOD's glory and honour on the cross. The invisible GOD was made visible on the cross. CHRIST JESUS displayed GOD publicly on the cross.

GOD displayed CHRIST JESUS publicly on the cross. GOD displayed CHRIST JESUS publicly as a satisfaction (propitiation) in HIS blood to demonstrate HIS holy righteousness, because in HIS forbearance and patience and tolerance GOD had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished (Romans 3:25).

GOD is just as well as the justifier of the one who has faith in CHRIST JESUS (Romans 3:26). Our LORD JESUS CHRIST has taken the sin on HIMSELF and has imputed HIS holy righteousness to the sinner. On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed the holy justice of GOD.

On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed GOD's longsuffering or unlimited patience (I Timothy 1:16).

On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed the holy grace of GOD (St. John 1:14; Galatians 1:6; Ephesians 2:5).

On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed the holy love of GOD (I John 4:10).
On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed the Law. Our GOD is absolutely consistent. GOD is absolutely consistent in HIS own laws. On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed GOD's absolute consistency in respect of HIS own laws (Romans 3:27-31).

On the cross, CHRIST JESUS displayed GOD's glorious and true holiness (Exodus 15:11; Ephesians 4:24). All GOD's laws reflect GOD's holiness. On the cross, CHRIST JESUS fulfilled all GOD's laws by sacrificing HIMSELF. On the cross, the holiness of GOD is satisfied and at the cross, sinners are converted and regenerated by the renewing of the HOLY SPIRIT (II Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5).

Now, on the cross the holy righteousness of GOD is displayed. On the cross, the holy justice of GOD is displayed. On the cross, the unlimited patience of GOD is displayed. On the cross, the holy grace of GOD is displayed. On the cross, the holy love of GOD is displayed. On the cross, the Law is displayed. On the cross, GOD's absolute consistency in respect of HIS own laws is displayed. On the cross, GOD's glorious and true holiness is displayed. Thus, GOD, GOD the FATHER is fully glorified in the death of HIS SON, GOD the SON¾the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

7.7 THE GREAT EVENT BEFORE DEATH

While our LORD JESUS CHRIST was hanging on the cross, the sun was darkened at noon and there was total darkness all over the earth from the twelfth hour at noon until the third hour in the evening. This darkness was evidently supernatural. Darkness reigned the earth from noon until 3 p.m.

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.”
St. Matthew 27:45
‘From the sixth hour ... unto the ninth hour’ means ‘from 12 noon to 3 p.m.’

The sun set and failed to shine at noon. So no one could do anything. They were still. The prophecy of Amos was fulfilled.

“And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.”
Amos 8:9

Again, the feast of Passover and the feast of the Unleavened Bread of the Jews were turned into mourning and their songs were turned into lamentation. It was a bitter day for them. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST was crucified on the day of the feast of Passover, which was the first day of the day of the feast of the Unleavened Bread. On the very same day, the sun set and failed to shine at noon and it was a bitter day for the Jews. Wearing sackclothes and shaving heads were the symbols of great grief.

“And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.”
Amos 8:10

The chief priests and the elders and all their people were terrified to think what would happen to them. They were frightfully struck with terror and grief. After the third hour in the evening, the darkness lifted.
During this time of darkness, our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST bore all our sins in HIS most holy body on the cross or on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.

“Who HIS own self bare our sins in HIS own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
I Peter 2:24

7.8 THE GREAT POWER TO GIVE UP AND TAKE BACK HIS LIFE

“Therefore doth MYFATHER love ME, because I lay down MY life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from ME, but I lay it down of MYSELF. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of MY FATHER.”
St. John 10:17-18

‘FATHER’ is ‘GOD the FATHER’, which is the LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF.

Now our LORD JESUS CHRIST, the ONE and ONLY TRUE GOD has the great power and authority to give up HIS most glorious life and to take it back. So HE gave up HIS most glorious life and took it back. What a powerful GOD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is!
After HE had given up HIS most glorious life for sinners, a soldier standing near HIS cross pierced HIS side with his spear. HIS most holy blood and water flowed out of the wound. See St. John 19:34. Thus our LORD JESUS CHRIST shed HIS most holy blood to the last drop for sinners. What a loving GOD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is!

7.9 SEVEN WORDS ON THE CROSS

The Almighty and All-Powerful LORD JESUS CHRIST spoke seven words thunderously, from the cross. HIS words are full of blessings and divine meanings. While hanging on the cross, people used to speak foul words, and to curse and scold others. But our LORD JESUS CHRIST spoke only glorious and wonderful words for the people to be blessed.

The seven words of JESUS on the cross are very highly significant words. HIS thunderously spoken first word on the cross not only concerns the people who crucified our LORD JESUS, but also concerns the people of the whole world, since all are sinners. HIS thunderously spoken first word on the cross is:

FATHER, FORGIVE THEM; FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.”
St. Luke 23:34

HIS first word on the cross affirms faith, reveals love and declares hope.
Now the forgiveness of sins (the remission of sins) for the people of the whole world is obtained only through our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST. HE is also the GOD, the FATHER.
Philip, one of the twelve disciples of our LORD JESUS said to HIM,

LORD, shew us the FATHER, and it sufficeth (will satisfy) us.”
St. John 14:8

JESUS answered and said to him,

“Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known ME, Philip? he that hath seen ME hath seen the FATHER; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the FATHER?”
St. John 14:9

Further, our LORD JESUS said,

“I and MY FATHER are one.”
St. John 10:30

Again, about HIS glorious relationship with GOD, the FATHER, our LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF said,

“That all men should honour the SON (GOD the SON), even as they honour the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). He that honoureth not the SON (GOD the SON) honoureth not the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) ...”
St. John 5:23

Now, GOD the SON, and GOD the FATHER are the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

From this verse anyone can understand that whoever honours the SON, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, honours the FATHER (GOD the FATHER), and whoever dishonours the SON, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, dishonours the FATHER (GOD the FATHER), and whoever crucifies the SON, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, crucifies the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). So our LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF interceded and prayed for sinners¾"FATHER, forgive them; for they know not what they do".

Further, when our LORD JESUS CHRIST was hanging on the cross, HE did not desire to show HIM that HE was the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). So HE HIMSELF interceded and prayed for sinners¾"FATHER, forgive them; for they know not what they do".

Now, our LORD JESUS CHRIST's glorious intercessory prayer for sinners, at once worked for the thief on HIS right side. HIS glorious intercessory prayer for sinners then worked for Cornelius, the Roman centurion and for numerous other people. HIS glorious intercessory prayer is now working on numerous people and it will continue to work on numerous people.

Again, HIS glorious intercessory prayer saved all HIS enemies, from their immediate destruction. HIS glorious intercessory prayer provided them a grace period of about forty years, for their repentance and salvation.

Some people have a wrong notion that the intercession of our LORD JESUS CHRIST will bring them salvation from sins. So they are not repenting of their sins, and they are not praying for the forgiveness of sins, and they are not praying for the salvation from sins, with broken-heart and with tears and with humility, by remembering the passion of CHRIST.

If the intercession of our LORD JESUS CHRIST is enough for salvation, why did our LORD JESUS die for sinners? If the intercession of our LORD JESUS CHRIST is enough for salvation, why should the gospel of our LORD JESUS be preached? If the intercession of our LORD JESUS CHRIST is enough for salvation, what is the use of repentance and believing the gospel? To enter into the kingdom of GOD, everyone should repent of his sins and everyone should believe the glorious gospel of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Our LORD JESUS said,

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of GOD is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
St. Mark 1:15

‘The time is fulfilled’ means ‘the time of the law is fulfilled’ or ‘the time of the law has reached its fulfilment’.

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's preaching stresses the importance of this present time. All, even the Jews or the Israelites, should believe in JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, and they should believe in the gospel of JESUS CHRIST itself, and they should repent of their sins to get salvation from sins. JESUS CHRIST is the end of the law. HE is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

“For CHRIST is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”
Romans 10:4

At this point, let us try to understand fully the significance of the statement that 'CHRIST is the end of the law for righteousness'.

In the old system, obedience to law was the motive and inspiration of life. It was also a condition of acceptance with GOD. But the demands of the law are impracticable and beyond human power to give. This is because of man's sinful nature. Hence there is a need for a new system and that system is called the gospel of JESUS. According to this gospel, our LORD JESUS has brought within our reach what we require.
Both obedience to and acceptance by GOD are achieved by the faith in CHRIST. What does faith in the gospel of LORD JESUS ask for? It is a simple thing: 'Acknowledge that JESUS is LORD and really believe in HIS resurrection'. Can't human hearts and human lips do this?

Now, all the sinners must have a desire to have a relationship with the Forgiver of sins and Saviour, the LORD JESUS CHRIST and should ask for forgiveness of sins and salvation. Without this desire to approach and beg of LORD JESUS, no one can get forgiveness of sins and salvation. Further, the sinners must have a clear understanding about their sin and its effects before and after their death, and of their total inability to do anything of their own to escape the wrath of GOD. They must have a clear understanding about the Forgiver of sins and Saviour, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, who HE is and what HE has done for forgiveness of sins and salvation. Without having this understanding, no one can get forgiveness of sins and salvation.

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Lamb of GOD came to take away the sins of the world. While HE was hanging on the cross, HE HIMSELF bore the sins of all people, including the sins of those who had crucified HIM and HE HIMSELF made intercession for sinners of the world, including those who had crucified HIM, HE HIMSELF interceded for sinners; HE HIMSELF pleaded for sinners; HE HIMSELF prayed for sinners.

“...And HE bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
Isaiah 53:12

This intercession of our LORD JESUS CHRIST was revealed in the first word of JESUS on the cross. The whole meaning of the cross is clearly revealed in this one act of HIS priestly intercession. HE was interceding on behalf of all sinners. HE was dying to purchase forgiveness for sins for mankind. Even at the very height of HIS agony and pain, HIS heart was filled with great compassion.

Forgiveness is one of the divine qualities of the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST. That was also, HIS preaching.  HE preached and said,

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
St. Matthew 5:44

Thus, our LORD JESUS practised HIS preaching in HIS own life. HE HIMSELF interceded and prayed for the sinners, including those who had crucified HIM, by telling the reason¾"For they know not what they do".

This glorious intercessory prayer of our LORD JESUS CHRIST immediately penetrated into the heart of the thief on HIS right side and worked for his salvation. At once, he came to know his awful state due to his terrible sins. So, he stopped his reproaches and insults on our LORD JESUS and rebuked the other thief. He rebuked him and said,

“Dost not thou fear GOD, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this MAN hath done nothing amiss.”
St. Luke 23:40-41

But, the thief on HIS left side did not care for the words of the other thief. He again reproached and insulted our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS.

Further, the thief on HIS right side believed that our LORD JESUS CHRIST is the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, and he believed HIS glorious kingdom, the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of GOD. He was very eager to enter into HIS kingdom. He feared about HIS terrible judgment and he was frightened about the most dreadful hell, the fiery lake of burning sulphur.

Again, the thief on HIS right side had a clear understanding about his sin and its effects before and after his death and he had a clear understanding about the Forgiver of sins, and Saviour, the LORD JESUS CHRIST. So he desired to depend on our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

The thief on HIS right side realized his sins, guilt, faults and transgressions. And he rebuked the other thief. And he started to confess all his sins, guilt, faults, and transgressions before our LORD JESUS, with a broken-heart and with tears and with humility. He had not covered his sins. And he said to JESUS,

LORD, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
St. Luke 23:42
What a great faith he had !

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Forgiver of sins and Saviour, is the most merciful and gracious GOD. At once, our LORD JESUS on the cross forgave his sins and saved him from his sins. On the brink of HIS very painful death, our LORD JESUS saved the thief on HIS right side, who prayed to HIM for his salvation. The thief became a blessed one. He was blessed to enter into the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of GOD. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

HIS thunderously spoken second word on the cross is said to the penitent thief on the right side of our LORD JESUS, who asked HIM to remember him when JESUS comes into HIS kingdom. HIS thunderously spoken second word on the cross is:

VERILY I SAY UNTO THEE, TO DAY SHALT THOU BE WITH  ME IN PARADISE.”
St. Luke 23:43

Paradise is a place of rest for HIS saints. Due to HIS terrible death on the cross, HIS saints receive Paradise, the place of rest of their souls. Till HIS terrible death on the Cross at Calvary, the souls of saints of the Old Testament rested in the dust of the earth
(I Samuel 28:3-20; Daniel 12:2). After HIS death, they also received the blissful paradise, the place of rest of the souls of saints in the third heaven (II Corinthians 12:2-4).  Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

HIS second word on the cross reveals that HE is our welcoming LORD. HE welcomed the repented thief (repented sinner) by giving a vision of paradise. HE welcomed the repented thief by saying 'Today'. What a vision! What a welcome! HE heartily welcomes
everyone of the repented sinners to give HIS glorious kingdom, the kingdom of GOD or the kingdom of heaven.

Since our LORD JESUS CHRIST graciously forgave and saved the penitent thief on HIS right side, it is evident that any wicked sinner can get forgiveness of sins and salvation from sins from HIM through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Now, the dying thief on the right side of our LORD JESUS was free from the terrible burden of his sins. Our LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST was bearing his sins for him. He was now clothed in perfect righteousness of CHRIST. Soon they would be in paradise together. On that day, immediately after his death, he was with HIM in paradise. If there were any purgatory, then this thief would have a long stay there. So, the Roman Catholic doctrine about purgatory is utterly a falsehood. There is no purgatory. There is no purgatory at all.

Then, the soldiers and the chief priests and the Sadducees and the Pharisees and the scribes and other people, moved away from HIS cross, and those who loved our LORD JESUS CHRIST came near to HIS cross. John the disciple whom HE loved, Virgin Mary the mother of JESUS, Mary Magdalene to whom our LORD JESUS appeared first after HIS most glorious resurrection, Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome the wife of Zebedee and the mother of James and John the two disciples of JESUS, were among them.

When our LORD JESUS was in Galilee, these women except Virgin Mary had followed HIM and ministered to HIM and come up with HIM to Jerusalem. They were all crying aloud with great grief. Holding the most holy feet of our LORD JESUS on the cross, Virgin Mary was crying aloud with great grief. John the disciple whom HE loved was also standing very near to Virgin Mary and he was also crying aloud with great grief.

Our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST was shivering and trembling with great agony and pain on the cross. HE was very hungry. HE was very thirsty. HE was too weary to talk. While HE was most painfully hanging on the cross, HE saw HIS grief-stricken mother, the Virgin Mary and HIS grief-stricken disciple John. No other disciple of our LORD JESUS was there. They were all scattered and shattered.

Now, HIS thunderously spoken third word on the cross comes while looking at HIS grief-stricken mother, the Virgin Mary and while looking at HIS grief-stricken beloved disciple, John. In the midst of HIS agonizing pain, by shaking HIS most holy head, HE thunderously said to HIS mother,

WOMAN, BEHOLD THY SON!”
St. John 19:26

And HE thunderously said to HIS disciple by shaking HIS most holy head,

BEHOLD THY MOTHER!”
St. John 19:27
From that time on, this disciple took her into his own home.

“...And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”
St. John 19:27

HIS third word on the cross reveals GOD as the Provider. HE provides through HIS SON, the LORD JESUS CHRIST and HE provides through HIS disciple.

On hearing the word of our LORD JESUS, Virgin Mary turned and looked at John. He resembled our LORD JESUS. There was not a degree of non-resemblance between our LORD JESUS and John. So her great grief about our LORD JESUS was tolerable to her.
And on hearing the word of our LORD JESUS, John was greatly astonished and he was greatly overcome with emotion about HIS great love towards him, even at HIS last hours of horrible death. By the word of JESUS, John was more and more strengthened and he became more and more courageous. This strength and courage would have greatly helped him to do his duties during the burial of our LORD JESUS. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST alone is wise. HE knows everything; HE knows all things. HE knows the past; HE knows the present; HE knows the future. Only GOD really knows the past and the present and the future. Our most gracious and most merciful LORD JESUS CHRIST had pre-planned to console HIS grief-stricken mother and HIS grief-stricken disciple. What a merciful and gracious LORD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is!
Now, our LORD JESUS CHRIST teaches a very important lesson to all by HIS third word on the cross. No one should despise his/her father when he is old; no one should despise his/her mother when she is old (Proverbs 23:22). No one should evade responsibility to parents by any unfair means (St. Mark 7:11-13). Honouring as well as obeying parents in the LORD ensures a long and a prosperous life upon earth (Ephesians 6:1-3). As HE was dying on the cross, HE made provision for HIS earthly mother through HIS beloved disciple, John. Thus HE fulfilled the fifth commandment as perfectly as HE fulfilled all the other commandments.

Immediately, John took Virgin Mary to Jerusalem and then he came back to Calvary. Except the mother of JESUS, the Virgin Mary, all the women mentioned above were standing there with great grief.  Mentioning of these women is very significant, since they serve as eyewitnesses to the death, burial and resurrection of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. But, Virgin Mary does not serve as an eyewitness to the death and burial of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Now, in no circumstance, had our LORD JESUS CHRIST called HIS mother, 'mother'. When a marriage took place at Cana in Galilee,  JESUS' mother was there. JESUS and HIS disciples were also invited to the marriage. When the wine was gone, JESUS' mother said to HIM,

“They have no wine.”
St. John 2:3

JESUS replied to her,

“Woman, what have I to do with thee? MINE hour is not yet come.
St. John 2:4

Then our LORD JESUS performed HIS first miracle changing cold water into good wine. Water in six stone water jars filled to the brim was changed into good wine. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Again, why did our LORD JESUS CHRIST call HIS mother, 'woman'? What were the reasons for such calling?

JESUS' mother, the Virgin Mary had thoroughly known all the prophetic scriptures about our LORD JESUS CHRIST. She had very well known that our LORD JESUS CHRIST came into the world to save sinners and HE was the Saviour of the world. She had very well known that HE was the Redeemer of the world. She had also very well known that our LORD JESUS CHRIST was the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD Almighty. Heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain HIM. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!
Hence, the divine meaning of our LORD JESUS CHRIST's saying 'woman' is that she had known everything about HIM clearly. So, she should never have the thought that HE was her son; and that she was HIS mother. Further, our LORD JESUS CHRIST had said, "Woman, Behold thy son"with the divine inner meaning, that is:

"I am not your son; and you are not MY mother; you know, who I am; you know, from where I came; you know, why I came; you know, where I will be going and what I will be doing."

Further, our LORD JESUS was her Saviour (St. Luke 1:47). HE was the heavenly Master to her and she was an earthly disciple to HIM. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF rebuked those who wanted to elevate Mary to a place of veneration:

“A certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto HIM, Blessed is the womb that bare THEE, and the paps which THOU hast sucked. But HE said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of GOD, and keep it.
St. Luke 11:27-28

Mary was blessed because she was obedient to the word of GOD. Her blessedness was a matter of both hearing and doing GOD's word. Her position as CHRIST's earthly mother did not carry with it any special titles such as co-mediatrix or co-redemptrix or queen of heaven or any of the other forms of deification. Mary did not remain perpetually a virgin. After the birth of JESUS, Mary and Joseph had a marital relationship (St. Matthew 1:25). It is a form of idolatry to bestow on Mary honour or titles or attributes. No one should give her a co-equal status in the redemptive work of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Giving such status to her is a terrible sin. No one should elevate her as a special object of veneration or deification. Elevating her as a special object of veneration or deification is a terrible sin.

Again, "woman, Behold thy son" emphasizes that her son John would accept and treat her as his own mother; he would nourish her as his own mother; he would provide all her needs; he would comfort her; and he would be her son. So she should not worry; she should not cry; she should not shed tears; she should not lament; she should not fear; and she should be peaceful and be comforted.

From that hour, John the disciple of our LORD JESUS, took Virgin Mary as his own mother. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST is full of pity for HIS people. HE was full of pity for HIS mother, the Virgin Mary. But HE never called her, mother. HE called her, woman. The reason for this calling is that Mary knew everything about our LORD JESUS CHRIST. She knew that our LORD JESUS CHRIST was the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD. HE is the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD for ever.

When our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST was shivering and trembling with agonizing pain on the cross, from the sixth hour to the ninth hour (from 12 noon to 3 p.m.), there was complete darkness over all the earth. The state of sin or evil is darkness. Hence, this darkness fell due to the sin of mankind. GOD's most terrible wrath for sin was poured upon our LORD JESUS CHRIST, during this time of darkness; and HE bore GOD's most terrible wrath for sin, during this time of darkness. HE terribly fought against sin (the curse of sin) and Satan, the devil during this time of darkness. During this grave, perilous and terribly agonizing time, our LORD JESUS CHRIST did not want to show HIS face to anyone. HIS most glorious face fell during the time of darkness. During the time of darkness, no one saw HIS face.

The sun covered its face and it set at noon suddenly. There was utter darkness over all the earth. This utter darkness at noon caused great fear. This great fear caused great silence. Then one could hear a pin drop and this silence lasted for about three hours. At that time, our entirely guiltless and pure LORD JESUS CHRIST bore more and more pain, more and more trembling, more and more sorrow and more and more grief. HE had no help from any man; HE had no help from any angel; HE had no help by any means. HE suffered alone for us, the sinners. What a pathetic and pitiable situation it is!
Now, our LORD JESUS CHRIST came into the world, in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering (Romans 8:3). But HE was sinless and holy. HE was truly human but not a sinner. Further, HE came into the world as the spotless and unblemished Lamb of GOD, to take away the sin of the whole world (St. John 1:29). Furthermore, HE came into the world, to drink the cup of sin of the whole world (St. Matthew 26:42). Again, HE came into the world, to make HIM to be sin (sin offering) for us (II Corinthians 5:21). Besides, HE came into the world, to offer HIM as a propitiation for the sins of the whole world (I John 2:2).
Further, we have no righteousness at all, and HE (the LORD JESUS CHRIST) has no sin at all. Hence, we have to be righteous; HE has to come in the likeness of flesh to be a sin offering. Again, we have to be righteous; HE has to take away the sin of ours. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST, the spotless and unblemished Lamb of GOD, takes away the sin of the world. Further, we have to be righteous; HE has to be sin for us.

“For HE hath made HIM to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM.”
II Corinthians 5:21

About three hours (from 12 noon to 3 p.m.), our sinless LORD JESUS CHRIST had made HIMSELF to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of GOD in HIM. The LORD GOD imputed (attributed) not iniquity or sin on us, the sinners. Our LORD GOD is GOD the FATHER and GOD the SON and GOD the Holy Spirit and HE is the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Now, GOD the FATHER imputed sin to CHRIST (GOD the SON). HE imputed sin to our LORD JESUS, the spotless and unblemished Lamb of GOD. Our LORD GOD imputed righteousness of CHRIST to the sinners account. CHRIST has taken the sin on HIMSELF and has imputed HIS righteousness to the sinners.

Now, our sins have hidden HIS most glorious face from us.

“...Your sins have hid HIS face from you, ...”
Isaiah 59:2

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not  (cannot) look on iniquity: ...”
Habakkuk 1:13

Where there is sin, the most holy face of our most holy GOD will be hidden. The final fight against sin and Satan was fought by our LORD JESUS CHRIST on the cross, for about three hours (from 12 noon to 3 p.m.). At that time, our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST, the unblemished and spotless Lamb of GOD, was made to be sin for us; and at that time the most holy face of GOD, the FATHER was lightly hidden to HIM. That time was the most critical time for our LORD JESUS. But, HE fought to the finish and HE gloriously triumphed over sin and Satan. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

When the darkness was slowly lifted, HE fully triumphed over sin and Satan. It was about the ninth hour (3 p.m.). HIS thunderously spoken fourth word on the cross is addressed to GOD at about the ninth hour and it comes from Psalm 22:1. This word on the cross is a word of great triumphant victory over sin and Satan, after a dreadful battle of about three hours against sin and Satan. At the time of HIS triumphant victory, our LORD JESUS CHRIST cried out with a thunderous voice and said,

ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI ?”
St. Matthew 27:46
This  verse  means,

MY GOD, MY GOD, why hast thou forsaken me?”
St. Matthew 27:46

HIS fourth word on the cross reveals the suffering Saviour. The cry of the Saviour in the cross is unbearable. HE suffered for us, the sinners as a forsaken servant. HE was accepted as the sinner, since HE accepted all our sins on the cross.

This word on the cross is a word of triumph over sin and Satan.  Satan was defeated and ruined and his head was crushed by our LORD JESUS CHRIST on the cross. Sin was defeated and killed by our LORD JESUS CHRIST on the cross. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!
In the fourth word on the cross, GOD the SON (the LORD JESUS CHRIST) calls GOD the FATHER: "MY GOD, MY GOD". It is rightful, since we see that GOD the FATHER calls GOD the SON (the LORD JESUS CHRIST): "O GOD".

“But unto the SON (GOD the SON) HE (GOD the FATHER) saith, Thy throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: a sceptre (scepter) of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Hebrews 1:8

The hidden thing in this verse is that GOD the FATHER and GOD the SON are the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Thomas, one of the twelve, said to our LORD JESUS CHRIST,

My LORD and my GOD.”
St. John 20:28

“...This (JESUS CHRIST) is the true GOD, and eternal life.”
I John 5:20

When our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST was on the cross, HE did not wish to reveal HIMSELF, GOD. In the midst of bearing GOD's most terrible wrath of sin, our LORD JESUS CHRIST did not wish to reveal HIMSELF, GOD. Here, HE was accursed of GOD as our sin-bearer and suffered the great agony of spiritual death for us. Here, HE suffered for our benefit and HE suffered in our place. HE suffered as a substitute for sin and HE suffered as a substitutionary-sufferer. Again, HE hung on the cross as a mediator (peacemaker) between GOD and mankind. HE hung on the cross as a mediator (peacemaker) between GOD the FATHER and mankind. HE hung on the cross by holding HIS right hand with GOD the FATHER and by holding HIS left hand with mankind. Further, HE, the righteous for the unrighteous (us), greatly suffered on the cross for our sins, to bring us to GOD (to make our fellowship with GOD). So HE did not wish to reveal HIMSELF, GOD; but, HE was GOD the SON. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST is GOD the SON. HE is the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD for ever. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

“For CHRIST also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that HE might bring us to GOD, being put to death in the flesh, …”
I Peter 3:18

“For there is one GOD, and one mediator between GOD and men, the man CHRIST JESUS; Who gave HIMSELF a ransom for all ,…”
I Timothy 2:5-6

Now, there is a great divine secret in the fourth word on the cross.  HIS fourth word, "MY GOD, MY GOD, why hast thou forsaken me?"  reveals that this time was the only forsaken time and this time was the most critical time to our entirely guiltless and holy LORD JESUS CHRIST. During this forsaken time, HIS horrible death occurred for the sin of mankind. During this forsaken time, HIS death occurred to free those who have been held in slavery by the sin and by the fear of death (hell) and by Satan (the devil). At this time, HE crushed the head of Satan, the devil vehemently and destroyed him.

“...Through death HE might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hebrews 2:14-15

For a small moment, HE was forsaken for us, the sinners. At that time, HIS death occurred for us, the sinners.

Further, if anyone calls our LORD JESUS CHRIST by faith, "MY GOD, MY GOD", then he will not be a forsaken one and HE will never forsake him. Thus our LORD JESUS CHRIST was not a forsaken one, since HE called HIMSELF, "MY GOD, MY GOD". But HE was forsaken for us, the sinners for a small moment. What a loving GOD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is!

At this time, HE had poured out HIS soul to death. At this time, HE had tasted death for every man. At this time, HE died for all sinners. At this time, our LORD JESUS CHRIST died for our sins.

“...HE hath poured out HIS soul unto death: ...”
Isaiah 53:12

“...HE ... should taste death for every man.”

Hebrews 2:9

“...One died for all, ...”
II Corinthians 5:14

“...It is CHRIST that died, ...”

Romans 8:34

“...CHRIST died for our sins according to the scriptures.”
I Corinthians 15:3

Then the darkness was completely lifted. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST was most agonizingly hanging on the cross. And HE had thunderously spoken the fifth word on the cross. HIS thunderously spoken fifth word is:

I THIRST.
St. John 19:28

HIS fifth word on the cross reveals the thirsting GOD. Each and everyone must satiate HIS most agonizing thirst for the souls of people by working as thirsty men to bring the souls of people to the thirsting GOD.

HE had spoken this word, since HE knew that all were now completed. HE had spoken this word for the fulfilment of the scriptures.

“...In MY thirst they gave ME vinegar to drink.”
Psalm 69:21

when HE horribly hung on the cross on three nails, the only one thing our LORD JESUS CHRIST spoke indicating HIS most horrible pain or discomfort was "I thirst ". At this time also HE did not complain.  What a patient endurance GOD, our LORD JESUS CHRIST has!
Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's great thirst is not for water, but for the salvation of the people of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the repentance of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the forgiveness of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the redemption of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the holiness and holy life of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the anointment of the whole world by HIS Holy Spirit; HIS great thirst is for the growth of spiritual life of the whole world; HIS great thirst is for the people of the whole world to enter into HIS everlasting kingdom, the kingdom of GOD or the kingdom of heaven; and HIS great thirst is for HIS most glorious reigning with them for ever and ever.

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.”
Psalm 145:13

Again, our LORD JESUS CHRIST's great thirst is not for water, but for the souls of all people of the world. HIS great thirst is for the redemption of their souls; HIS great thirst is for the salvation of their souls. Only the redeemed or the saved people will enter into heaven, the kingdom of GOD, since they have satiated HIS great thirst for their souls. The unredeemed or the unsaved people will be cast into hell, the fiery lake of burning sulphur, since they have not satiated HIS great thirst for their souls. So everyone should satiate HIS great thirst for his/her soul, by getting salvation from sins, redemption from sins, holiness, holy life, etc.

Those who have not satiated HIS great thirst for their souls, will be in hell, the fiery lake of burning sulphur in great thirst for ever and ever. This will be a sure and certain thing. They will be punished by eternal thirst and eternal fire in hell for ever and ever. Not even a drop of water will be given to them for their great thirst in hell-fire (St. Luke 16:19-31).

But those who have satiated HIS great thirst for their souls, will be in heaven, the kingdom of GOD in great happiness and joy for ever and ever. HE will give to drink the water of life freely to them (Revelation 21:6). Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Now, there was a vessel full of vinegar. So they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted up to HIS most holy mouth. When HE had received the vinegar, our LORD JESUS CHRIST thunderously said,

IT  IS  FINISHED.
St. John 19:30

It is HIS thunderously spoken sixth word on the cross. Our LORD JESUS CHRIST's understanding has no limit. The divine meaning of this word on the cross is very great. Its length and breadth and height and depth is beyond our understanding.

Feeling of great relief, achievement and triumph is clearly revealed in this sixth word on the cross. This sixth word also reveals that HIS office as great Prophet is finished (St. Luke 7:16); and HIS office as High Priest is also finished (Hebrews 7:26).

"It is finished" means that HIS days of HIS flesh are finished.  That is, HIS fleshly life is finished. All HIS great sufferings in HIS most holy flesh are finished. HIS glorious gospel work is finished. HIS great suffering ministry is finished. All HIS great thirst and great hunger and great weariness and great painfulness are finished. All HIS great tribulations in the world are finished. The law of the Old Testament is fulfilled or ended or completed or finished. So, no one should keep the law of the Old Testament. Hence, all sacrifices and traditions of men and rudiments of the world are finished. Since our LORD JESUS CHRIST sacrificed HIMSELF for the whole world, no other sacrifice is necessary. Doing evil for evil or railing for railing is finished. The principle of retaliation is finished. The principle of retaliation is, eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. All the prophecies about HIM are fulfilled and finished. In the past, our LORD GOD spoke through the prophets at many times and in various ways. The will of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) in HIMSELF is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. The work of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) in HIMSELF is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. Revealing the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) in HIMSELF is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. Revealing the ONE GOD, AND THE ONLY GOD, AND THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD in HIMSELF is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. The human beings are created in the image of GOD. How they are to walk and live in this world is clearly shown by our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST. HE lived as a most excellent model man. HE lived as a most excellent model spiritual man. HE lived as a most excellent godly man. Everyone should look upon HIM as their model spiritual man or model man. Thus, HIS most excellent godly living as a most excellent model man or model spiritual man is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. All HIS work for the salvation of the people of the whole world is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF. And the tremendous scene of HIS very great sufferings on the cross, revealing HIS very great love towards mankind is fulfilled and finished by HIMSELF.

Now, our LORD JESUS CHRIST is triumphant over all things. HIS atoning work is done and finished. HIS redemptive work for sinners is complete. GOD's justice is satisfied. The ransom for sin is paid in full. The wages of sin are settled forever. The only remaining thing for CHRIST is to die so that HE might rise again.

Then our LORD JESUS CHRIST had thunderously spoken the seventh word on the cross. HIS thunderously spoken seventh word on the cross is:

FATHER, INTO THY HANDS I COMMEND MY SPIRIT.”
St. Luke 23:46
This is the fulfilment of the prophecy in Psalm 31:5.

Into thine hand I commit MY spirit: ...
Psalm 31:5

This seventh word on the cross reveals the receiving FATHER.  HE receives HIS people in HIS most holy hands. This word also reveals the committing SON, the SON of GOD¾the LORD JESUS CHRIST and this word also reveals the departing Spirit.
HE spoke all these seven words thunderously. HE cried with a thunderous voice, as a shout of triumph, and yielded up HIS Ghost (Spirit). That is, HE breathed HIS last. Now, we have already seen that the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) is our LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF.  Before 12 noon, the first three words on the cross were spoken by our LORD JESUS CHRIST, one by one with sufficient intervals. At about 3 p.m., the fourth word on the cross was spoken by our LORD JESUS CHRIST. After 3 p.m., the last three words on the cross were spoken by our LORD JESUS CHRIST, one by one continuously.

When HE had spoken the sixth word, "It is finished", we may think that all HIS words were finished. But HIS words were not finished with this word. By this sixth word, HE bade farewell to this world. Then HE commended HIS Spirit, by telling this seventh word to the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). By telling this seventh word thunderously, HE went to HIS FATHER. HE started HIS first word with 'FATHER' and HE ended HIS last word with 'FATHER'.

HE had poured out HIS soul to death. HE had given up HIS earthly body in the hands of men. HE had given up HIS Spirit into the hands of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST has the power to lay down HIS life and take it up again. Here our LORD JESUS has predicted HIS crucifixion and resurrection.

“...I lay down MY life, that I might take it again.”
St. John 10:17

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST had spoken all these seven words on the cross, consciously and thunderously. Till the end, HE had spoken all these seven words consciously and thunderously. Even though HE was very hungry and very thirsty and very weary and very painful, HE had spoken all these seven words consciously and thunderously.

Now, there is a great divine secret in the last and the seventh word of JESUS on the cross. When HE had spoken the seventh word, HE gave up HIS most glorious Spirit into the most holy hands of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). Hence, GOD the SON gave up HIS most glorious Spirit into the most holy hands of GOD the FATHER. But, GOD the SON and GOD the FATHER are the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF. HE gave up HIS Spirit or HE yielded up HIS Spirit means that HE had fallen asleep. HE gave up HIS Spirit does not mean HIS death. HE had given up HIS most glorious Spirit into the most holy hands of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER) and HE had fallen asleep, for his most glorious resurrection on the third day from the grave. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!
Our LORD JESUS CHRIST had given up HIS Spirit willingly. HIS final passage into death was a deliberate act of HIS own sovereign will. HE showed HIS own sovereign will to the very end. HE showed HIS own sovereign control to the very end. St. John says,

HE bowed HIS head, and gave up the ghost (HIS spirit).”
St. John 19:30

Quietly, submissively and simply, HE yielded up HIS life.

Further, the people of our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST are commending their spirit into the most holy hands of our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF. Our LORD GOD, JESUS CHRIST is GOD the FATHER. Hence, HIS people are commending their spirit into the most holy hands of the FATHER (GOD the FATHER). Stephen, the first Christian martyr, calling upon GOD said,
LORD JESUS, receive my spirit.”
Acts 7:59

Then he kneeled down, and cried aloud with a loud voice,

LORD, lay not this sin to their charge.”
Acts 7:60

“...And when he (Stephen) had said this, he fell asleep.”
Acts 7:60

Stephen had fallen asleep for HIS most glorious resurrection on the day of resurrection of the saints. This is the first resurrection. The first resurrection is a resurrection to life, the life eternal in the kingdom of GOD or the kingdom of heaven. Praise The LORD! Alleluia!

Thus, everyone should clearly understand the secrets of the divine meanings, contained in these seven words of JESUS on the cross.
